In a chess game, each piece has a point. And can be better understood with the help of the table.

the different pieces in chess
NAME OF PIECE POINT ALLOTED
KING 10 Points
QUEEN 9 Points
ROOK 5 Points
KNIGHT 3 Points
BISHOP 3 Points
PAWN 1 Point

Similarly, you would lose the game, if the king gets out. When in the King is going to be out, we call it a CHECK. As to give the opponent a heads up. And if the opponent doesn't have any other move to save themselves, we call it CHECKMATE.

We hope this helps you in better understanding of why one should play this game. And you try and play the same as often as possible.
